Installation
After you sign up for your ADS Online Backup service we will download and then install the software onto your computer(s). Once our software is installed, it will always remain in your system background. As part of our setup, we will create backup sets that contain information on the files or folders that you want to backup and the days and times that you want to back them up. Backups will then occur automatically. When a backup begins, our software will search all of the folders and files that are contained in your backup set. All new files and all files that have changed since the last backup, will be compressed, encrypted and then securely sent to the Austin Data Storage servers.
You will be able to restore files at any time, by opening the software and selecting which files you want to restore through an interface similar to File Explorer. If you have a system failure, you will have the ability to reinstall the software and then restore all of your files.
You have the ability to save an unlimited number of versions of the same file. By default, our service is set up to save 10 versions. Our software allows you to manage how old versions are handled, giving you control over your backups and over your storage space. During setup our technical staff will go over all your configuration options and make recommendations based on your needs, data, equipment, and Internet bandwidth.
Our technical support staff is always available to help you reconfigure your backup sets and/or manage how much data is stored on our servers (an hourly rate applies).
Step-by-Step Guide
1. Our service is designed to run on networks but can also run on standalone machines like laptops. It runs on servers, workstations and laptops, and works across a wide variety of operating systems (thoug Windows is most commonly used).
2. You can back up as often as you want, though we recommend setting it up to run automatically in the middle of the night during the workweek and on weekends. No other backups should be scheduled at the same time (tape, zip, NT backup, etc.).
3. To install our service we have to either come onsite or remote into the machine where our service will be installed to review your system. This way we can determine if you have enough upstream bandwidth to back up all your data. We also set up the service and go through our checklist with you (obtain contact info, user and encryption passwords, review our license agreement, get your signature, etc.).
4. We charge a nonrefundable $150.00 setup fee for a standard installation (1-3 machines). If nonstandard we will quote a setup fee.
5. We do not start billing until all your data is fully backed up on our servers.
6. We back up data, Exchange and SQL Server databases. We can also back up Outlook pst files. There are certain technical restrictions pertaining to backing up Outlook and Exchange files which our technical support personnel will discuss with you.
7. As part of the answers provided us in Step 3 we will e-mail/fax you our credit card authorization form pre-filled with your initial Plan level and contact info. You will fill in your credit card information, sign, and fax/scan the completed form back to us where it will be securely stored at our office.
8. We bill on the first of the month. We bill for any pro-rated usage, overages and setup fees for the previous month, then bill the Plan fee for the month coming up (you pre-pay a month ahead for the service). So the first bill will be larger than just one month's Plan fee. We'll bill your credit card and then send you an informational invoice by e-mail.
9. We monitor your backups daily and will contact you if we notice any problems.
10. We willl put you on our Customer mailing list. We send out an e-mail newsletter to our customers with tips, hints, company news, etc. We do not sell or share our mailing list!
11. We will take really good care of you. Online data backup is all we do!
